Since the birth of my daughter one year ago, I have slowly begun to return to my fibre art and jewellery making whenever I can, usually a few hours at a time. As with all my artistic endeavors, nothing ever seems to proceed at the pace I would like. Creative ideas seem to pour over me at a staggering rate, and I could hardly manifest them all if I could work twenty four hours a day without sleep. So I just take a breath, I put my daughter first, and I am as disciplined as I can possibly be with the time that’s available. Staying power, persistence and patience (most of all!), seem to be required in endless quantities. The three P’s of my creative life!
The autumn is upon us now and I feel overwhelmed by the beauty of the changes around me. Having grown up in southern California where there are no real seasons to speak of, seeing the transformation of the English landscape is utterly unreal and miraculous. I feel as if I am experiencing something profound and rare, and yet these changes happen year after year – the glorious greens of an eternal summer shifting by surprise into every hue of red, yellow, and orange imaginable.
I have made real progress with Ploom’s website with the help of my friends at Galaxy, and I am hoping to launch it again before Christmas. In the meantime, I am working with some wonderful new materials: wool, silk, and kid mohair. And I am even learning how to crochet, as evidenced by the scarf above. So look forward to matching sets of scarves and earrings, and even some winter hats!
Until then..
Whenever the sun is shining, get outdoors and enjoy the colours!
